Wide-input buck for 12V/24V/48V rails
The STMicroelectronics L4978D013TR is a non-synchronous step-down (buck) switching regulator delivering up to 2A from an input range spanning 8V to 55V. The adjustable output can be set from a 3.3V minimum up to 50V, making it a fit for point-of-load conversion in industrial 24V systems, automotive 12V/24V battery rails, and telecom 48V backplanes. Switching frequency is programmable between 100kHz and 300kHz, letting the designer trade off inductor size against ripple. The 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm width) provides adequate copper area for heat dissipation without requiring a thermal pad.
2A output with external catch diode
Because the L4978D013TR uses non-synchronous rectification, an external Schottky diode must be added between the switch node and ground. This is standard for this regulator class but adds one BOM line and a small PCB footprint.
