What this NPN transistor does in the circuit
The ROHM 2SD1781KT146R is a general-purpose NPN epitaxial planar transistor in a surface-mount SMT3 package (SOT-23-3 compatible). The 150 MHz transition frequency keeps it useful for moderate-speed switching up to a few MHz, such as in DC-DC converter pre-drive or signal buffering.
The 800 mA collector current rating is the maximum continuous current the transistor can conduct; for reliable operation, derate to 60-70% of that in a 70°C ambient, especially given the 200 mW power dissipation ceiling. The 32 V Vceo sets the maximum supply rail — a 24 V industrial bus or 12 V automotive rail is fine, but a 48 V system would exceed it. The hFE of 180 minimum at 100 mA / 3 V means a base drive of roughly 0.6 mA will saturate the transistor at 100 mA collector current, which is easy for a 3.3 V logic output through a 4.7 kΩ resistor. The 200 mW power limit assumes standard FR-4 with no extra copper pour; adding a small pad of copper under the collector can improve thermal dissipation by about 20-30% in still air.
