What the 3750Vrms isolation and 4-SOIC package mean for your board
The FODM217BR2 is a single-channel, DC-input, transistor-output optoisolator in a surface-mount package. The 3750Vrms isolation rating is the key safety spec — it provides basic isolation for low-voltage signal paths in industrial controls, PLC digital inputs, and auxiliary power supplies where the galvanic barrier separates a 24V field side from a 3.3V or 5V logic side. Current transfer ratio and switching speed — design margin decisions
The CTR is specified at 130% minimum and 260% maximum when the LED is driven at 5 mA. That 2:1 spread means you need to size the LED resistor so the output transistor saturates even at the low end of the CTR range. At the high end, the output may saturate with less than 2 mA of LED current, which helps reduce power draw in battery-powered or low-standby designs. Rise and fall times are both 3 µs typical, with turn-on and turn-off times also 3 µs typical.
