500 MHz Cortex-M7 — what it buys you
The MIMXRT1015DAF5A runs a single ARM Cortex-M7 core at 500 MHz — roughly double the clock of most real-time MCUs in this footprint. That clock headroom lets you run heavier control loops, audio processing, or protocol stacks without moving to a Linux-class MPU. The 128K x 8 RAM is tight for frame buffers or large data arrays; external program memory means the flash is off-chip, so pin-count and PCB layout budget for the memory bus (EBI/EMI) is mandatory.
Peripherals and I/O — what connects
57 general-purpose I/O lines, USB2.0 OTG with PHY, I²C, SPI, UART, SAI (audio), SPDIF, and a 9-channel 12-bit ADC. Brown-out detect, POR, DMA, and PWM are on-chip. The 100-LQFP (14×14 mm) is a hand-solderable QFP — no BGA reflow needed, which simplifies prototype and low-volume assembly.
