50 MHz SPI serial flash in an 8-SOIC
The Microchip SST25VF080B-50-4C-S2AF-T is an 8 Mbit serial flash memory that talks over a standard SPI bus at up to 50 MHz.
At 50 MHz SPI clock, a single read command streams data at roughly 6 MB/s — enough to shadow a 1 MB firmware image into RAM in under 200 ms. The page write cycle time is 10 µs, which is typical for this generation of serial NOR. If you are replacing a slower 33 MHz part, the throughput gain is real; if you are moving to a Quad-SPI part, you will see roughly 4x the read bandwidth, but the SST25VF080B keeps the pin count and layout simple.
It belongs in office equipment, consumer electronics, indoor test gear, and appliance controllers. It is not rated for the engine bay, outdoor telecom cabinets in summer, or cold-storage environments — for those you would look at the industrial-temperature SST25VF series variants.
The part is ROHS3 compliant.
Standard SPI only — no dual or quad
This part uses a standard SPI bus with one data-in and one data-out line. It does not support dual-SPI or quad-SPI commands. If your design relies on the higher throughput of a multi-I/O serial flash, you will need to step up to the SST26 or SST25VFxxxB series parts that include those modes. For a simple code-store application with a single SPI port on the MCU, the standard interface is all you need.
The 8-SOIC package has a 5.30 mm body width — the wider SOIC footprint, not the narrow 3.90 mm version. Surface-mount only. The tape-and-reel option (TR suffix) is the common procurement format for pick-and-place assembly; cut tape is also available for prototyping or low-volume builds.
