Smart card interface with flexible host connectivity
The Microchip SEC1210-I/PV-UR2 is a specialized interface IC designed for smart card reader applications, handling the electrical-level translation and protocol sequencing between a smart card and a host controller. It supports both 3V and 5V smart cards directly, thanks to a supply range of 3V to 5.5V, which covers the two common card voltage standards without an external regulator. The part communicates with the host through any of three interfaces: SPI Serial, USB, or UART, giving the designer flexibility in how it connects to the system MCU or SoC.
3V to 5.5V supply — covers both card standards
The supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V is the headline spec for this part. It means the SEC1210-I/PV-UR2 can power a 5V smart card from a 5V rail, or a 3V card from a 3.3V rail, without needing a separate level shifter. This simplifies the power tree and reduces BOM cost. If your design targets dual-voltage card support, this single IC handles both.
24-QFN with exposed pad — thermal and layout notes
The part comes in a 24-VFQFN Exposed Pad package (5x5 mm body), surface-mount only. The 24-QFN footprint is compact, suited for space-constrained reader modules or handheld terminals.
ROHS3 compliant.
