The Microchip Technology RE46C122E16F is a CMOS ionization-type smoke detector IC designed for standalone or interconnected alarms. The ionization input type means the IC is optimised for the small sensing current from an ionization chamber — the kind that responds fastest to fast-flaming fires with small particles. The voltage output drives the alarm horn or control relay directly, with no external buffer needed for most piezoelectric sounders.
Through-hole DIP for prototyping and legacy service
The 16-PDIP supplier device package is the same footprint used by earlier generation smoke detector ICs, so a board spin is not required when migrating from an older part. Operating temperature range is -10°C to 60°C — this covers residential and commercial indoor environments but not unheated attics or outdoor enclosures.
