Eight-channel linear driver for backlight arrays
The Microchip MSL3085BT is an eight-output linear LED driver from the Adaptive SourcePower™ series, designed for backlight applications where tight current matching across multiple LED strings matters. It drives each channel with a PWM dimming input — the 20 MHz switching ceiling means the PWM carrier can run well above audible frequencies, so the backlight doesn't whine in a quiet room. The driver itself has no internal switches, so each output needs an external FET or transistor to handle the LED string current — the chip provides the gate drive and current regulation logic.
It runs from 10.8 V to 13.2 V supply — a tight window that matches a regulated 12 V rail, not a wide-input automotive bus. The -40°C to 105°C ambient range covers most indoor and outdoor backlight enclosures, but the exposed-pad thermal resistance means the actual die temp at 105°C ambient depends on how much copper you pour under the pad.
That means it's still a valid design-in choice for new backlight boards, and the supply channel is the standard Microchip distribution network. No stock-holding claim — the BOM quantity drives the lead time.
