The MIC284-3YM is a digital temperature sensor from Microchip Technology that measures both local die temperature and a remote diode junction over a -55°C to 125°C range. It communicates over an I²C/SMBus interface and resolves temperature to 7 bits. This makes it a fit for thermal management in enclosures where the ambient spans from cold start to full-load soak. Features that matter in a thermal management loop
The MIC284-3YM includes an output switch, programmable temperature limit, shutdown mode, and standby mode. The programmable limit lets the sensor assert an interrupt or control a fan directly without polling the I²C bus — useful in a closed-loop thermal management system where the host MCU can sleep until the threshold is crossed. Shutdown mode drops the supply current to near-zero for battery-powered gear; standby mode keeps the digital interface alive while stopping temperature conversions.
