Boost regulator for white LED backlight
The MIC2292C-15YML is a 1.6 MHz fixed-frequency step-up (boost) DC-DC regulator from Microchip Technology, designed to drive white LEDs in backlight applications. Its internal switch handles up to 750 mA, and the output is regulated to 15 V. PWM dimming is supported directly on the enable pin, allowing the LED string brightness to be controlled without an external dimming FET or series resistor.
1.6 MHz switching and 750 mA switch current
The 750 mA switch current limit sets the maximum LED current: at 15 V output from a 3.6 V input, the available LED current is roughly 180 mA continuous, assuming 85 % efficiency. Input supply range is 2.5 V to 10 V, covering single-cell Li-Ion (3.0–4.2 V) and 5 V USB rails. The 15 V regulated output is enough to drive two white LEDs in series (typical Vf ~3.2 V each) plus the 200 mV current-sense overhead.
8-MLF package and thermal performance
Housed in a 2 mm × 2 mm 8-MLF (8-VFDFN exposed pad), the MIC2292C-15YML fits into compact handheld or portable backlight boards.
