What the ±1°C accuracy means in a real system
The MCP9804T-E/MS is a local digital temperature sensor from Microchip that reports the die temperature over an I²C/SMBus interface with ±1°C typical accuracy.
Configurable alert and power-saving features
The sensor includes an output switch that can drive an interrupt or alert line when the temperature crosses a programmable limit — useful for over-temperature shutdown in a motor drive or fan control loop. Programmable resolution lets you trade conversion speed for noise: 10-bit resolution (0.25°C per LSB) is the default, but you can step down to 9-bit for faster reads. Shutdown mode drops the supply current to near-zero for battery-powered loggers that wake up, take a reading, and go back to sleep.
Supply voltage and interface: fits 3.3V or 5V rails
The I²C/SMBus interface is standard — no special timing or pull-up requirements beyond the usual 4.7 kΩ resistors. Multiple sensors can share the same bus if you configure different addresses via the pin strapping.
The 8-MSOP package (3.00 mm width, 0.118" pitch) is a common footprint shared with many other temperature sensors and op-amps, so you can often drop it into an existing layout without a board spin. Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant. The tape-and-reel option (Cut Tape also available) is standard for pick-and-place assembly.

It is ROHS3 compliant, so it ships into EU and other regulated markets without exemption paperwork.
