LIN bus physical layer for the 12V board
The MCP2003A-E/SN is a LIN bus transceiver — the physical-layer interface between a microcontroller's UART and the single-wire LIN bus found in automotive body electronics, sensor clusters, and low-speed actuator networks. Half-duplex operation with a single driver and single receiver (1/1) means it handles bidirectional communication on the same wire, one direction at a time, which is the standard LIN topology. Supply range of 6 V to 27 V covers the nominal 12 V automotive rail with headroom for load-dump transients and cold-crank dips, so it stays alive when the battery sags during engine start.
Temperature grade and package fit
This is the under-hood and cabin-grade band; the part operates through the heat soak of a parked car in summer and the cold crank of a winter start. The 1.27 mm pitch is a standard footprint that routes easily on a two-layer board without micro-vias. Receiver hysteresis of 175 mV provides noise immunity on the bus — the input doesn't chatter when the LIN line carries coupled ignition noise or ripple from the alternator.
