3V fixed LDO in a hand-solderable SOT-223
The MCP1824T-3002E/DC is a single-output positive LDO from Microchip, delivering a fixed 3V rail at up to 300 mA from a maximum 6V input. The SOT-223-6 package has a large exposed tab that makes hand-soldering straightforward — no hot-air gun required, and the tab doubles as the thermal path to the board. With a maximum dropout of just 0.32V at full load, the input rail only needs to stay above 3.32V to keep the output in regulation — useful when running from a 3.6V Li-ion cell or a 3.3V rail with headroom.
PSRR and quiescent draw for noise-sensitive rails
Power-supply rejection ratio is 55 dB at 100 Hz, meaning 100 mV of 100 Hz ripple on the input gets knocked down to about 0.18 mV at the output — enough to keep an analog sensor supply clean from rectified line noise. Quiescent current is 220 µA typical — not an ultra-low-Iq part for battery-always-on, but fine for a rail that stays enabled during normal operation. The Enable pin lets you shut down the output entirely, and the Power Good flag gives an open-drain signal when the output is within regulation — useful for sequencing downstream loads.
Protection and temperature range for industrial use
On-chip protection includes over-temperature shutdown, short-circuit current limiting, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) — the regulator survives a hard short on the output without damage.
