1.8V fixed rail at 500mA — the dropout tells the story
The MCP1725-1802E/MC is a single-output positive LDO regulator that delivers a fixed 1.8V at up to 500mA. The maximum dropout is 0.35V at full load — so the input rail needs to stay above 2.15V across line and load transients to keep the output in regulation. Quiescent current is 220 µA typical, which matters for always-on or battery-backed rails where the regulator's own draw competes with the load's sleep current.
PSRR at 100Hz — what it means on the bench
The listed PSRR is 60dB at 100Hz. That is the frequency of full-wave rectified line ripple (100/120Hz), so this regulator attenuates mains-frequency ripple by a factor of 1000. Upstream switching noise above the crossover frequency will pass through less attenuated — if the input comes from a switching converter, a post-filter or a second LDO stage may be needed for clean analog rails.
Protection set and temperature grade
Built-in over-temperature shutdown, short-circuit current limit, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) — the regulator folds back or shuts down rather than letting the load see a brownout or a thermal runaway. On a rework bench, the exposed pad means a hot-air profile with a preheat soak below 200°C to avoid lifting the pad — the datasheet's soldering profile is the reference.
