SoC FPGA with 50K logic modules and a 166 MHz Cortex-M3
The M2S050-FGG484I from Microchip's SmartFusion®2 family is a single-chip SoC FPGA that pairs an ARM® Cortex®-M3 processor core running at 166 MHz with 50K logic modules of FPGA fabric. The 256 KB embedded SRAM serves both the processor and the programmable logic, so you can run a control loop on the hard core while the FPGA handles high-speed data preprocessing or custom peripheral logic without external memory arbitration.
The 267 I/O count on the 484 FBGA package gives you enough headroom to connect multiple external ADCs, parallel sensor buses, and a DDR memory interface (listed among the peripheral types) without resorting to a larger, more expensive package variant. The Ethernet MAC on-chip means you can add a PHY chip and magnetics for a networked controller node — no external MAC or FPGA-based Ethernet core needed. This is not a commercial-grade part — it is specced for the thermal margin a production design needs.
