Ultrasound beamformer switch – 8 channels, high-voltage, wideband
The HV2301FG-G-M931 is an 8-channel SPST switch IC from Microchip Technology, designed specifically for ultrasound imaging beamformers. Each channel switches a 1:1 multiplexer/demultiplexer path, letting the system route transmit and receive signals between the transducer array and the front-end electronics. The part handles a single-supply range of 40 V to 200 V, or a dual-supply range of ±40 V to ±160 V, covering the high-voltage bias needed for piezoelectric transducer excitation. The 38 Ohm maximum on-state resistance keeps insertion loss low in the signal path.
Bandwidth and signal integrity for phased-array front-ends
A -3 dB bandwidth of 50 MHz means the switch passes the fundamental and lower harmonics of typical ultrasound transmit bursts (1–15 MHz) with minimal attenuation. The 38 Ohm Rds(on) contributes a voltage divider with the transducer impedance — in a 50-Ohm system the insertion loss is roughly 1.5 dB per channel, which the system gain budget absorbs. The 8-channel density in a 48-LQFP (7x7 mm) package lets a single IC serve one element of a phased-array probe. Multiple devices can be ganged for higher channel counts; the SPST topology avoids crosstalk between adjacent channels when the switch is off.
