15 ns EE PLD in a 20-SOIC — legacy 5V glue logic
The Microchip ATF16V8CZ-15SI is an electrically-erasable programmable logic device from the 16V8 family, delivering 8 macrocells with a 15 ns propagation delay at a 5V supply. It comes in a 20-SOIC (0.295", 7.50 mm width) surface-mount package, the same footprint used across the 16V8 series for board-level glue logic in industrial controllers, telecom line cards, and legacy 5V systems.
The 15 ns speed grade sets the maximum combinatorial delay from input to output. In a 5V system clocked at 33 MHz, that leaves roughly 15 ns of timing budget after clock-to-output and setup times — enough for address decoding or state-machine logic without wait states. If your existing BOM uses a 10 ns or 7.5 ns part, this 15 ns variant may not close timing at the same clock rate.
8 macrocells at 5V — what the density covers
Eight macrocells, each configurable as registered or combinatorial output, map to about 8 to 12 simple logic equations — typical for chip-select generation, bus arbitration, or state machines with fewer than 16 states. The 5V-only supply ties it to legacy 5V logic families; it will not interface directly with 3.3V or 1.8V cores without level translation.
