What this 2 Kbit I²C EEPROM brings to a BOM
The Microchip 34AA02-I/P is a 2 Kbit serial EEPROM organized as 256 x 8 bits, accessed over an I²C bus at up to 400 kHz. It stores configuration parameters, calibration constants, or small lookup tables in designs where non-volatile memory is needed but the density requirement stays modest. The 8-DIP through-hole package (0.300" body) is the go-to form factor for breadboarding, legacy board rework, and low-volume production where socketing or hand-soldering is the norm.
The 900 ns access time at 400 kHz leaves setup margin before the next SCL edge.
The through-hole PDIP package is not the first choice for high-vibration environments — a socket with a retention clip or conformal coating helps — but for benchtop instrumentation, HVAC controllers, and retrofit boards it is exactly what the rework tech wants to see.
Microchip lists the 34AA02-I/P as Active. The ROHS3 compliance covers current EU and UK regulatory requirements without an exemption expiry.
