2Kbit I2C EEPROM in a through-hole DIP-8
The Microchip 24C02/P is a 2Kbit serial EEPROM organised as 256 x 8 bits, accessed over an I2C bus at up to 400 kHz. The 900 ns access time is the read-cycle latency from the bus master's perspective — fast enough for configuration and calibration data reads in most 8-bit and 16-bit microcontroller designs. The 5 ms write-cycle time (word or page) means the bus is held during a write, so plan for that in the firmware timing if the EEPROM is on a shared I2C bus with other peripherals.
5 V supply only — not a 3.3 V part
It is not compatible with 3.3 V logic without a level shifter or a separate 5 V rail. The 24C02/P's 400 kHz clock rate is the standard fast-mode I2C speed, matching most MCU I2C peripherals.
Commercial temperature grade — indoor use
It fits office equipment, appliances, and indoor industrial control panels. For automotive or outdoor telecom enclosures where the ambient can drop below freezing, the 24C02A-E/P or 24C02C-E/P variants cover -40°C to +125°C.
Through-hole DIP-8 — legacy footprint, easy to hand-assemble
The 8-pin DIP package (0.300" row spacing) is through-hole, so it plugs into a socket or solders into plated-through holes. No reflow profile needed — just a soldering iron.
