Half-bridge gate driver with integrated oscillator
The Infineon IR2155 is a self-oscillating half-bridge gate driver designed for driving IGBTs and N-channel MOSFETs in a synchronous half-bridge configuration. Rated for a 10 V to 20 V supply rail, it mates directly with standard 12 V and 15 V gate-drive bias rails common in off-line power supplies, ballasts, and motor drives. The high-side bootstrap rating to 600 V allows it to drive the upper FET in a half-bridge from a single low-voltage supply with a bootstrap diode and capacitor. Peak output current is 250 mA source, 500 mA sink — enough to drive a pair of medium-power IGBTs or MOSFETs in the 5 A to 20 A range at moderate switching frequencies. The 80 ns rise and 45 ns fall times keep cross-conduction losses low when the deadtime is set correctly.
Junction temperature and package for power-conversion environments
Housed in an 8-DIP through-hole package (0.300-inch body, 7.62 mm pitch), the IR2155 fits legacy PCB layouts and is straightforward to hand-solder or rework. The through-hole format also provides better thermal coupling to the board copper than a small-outline package for the same footprint area.
No official successor part is listed in the transition data. For new designs, a current-production half-bridge driver with similar function — such as the IRS2153 or IR2153 — should be evaluated for pin-compatibility and parametric match.
