120 V CoolMOS — what the ratings mean in a power stage
The Infineon IPI147N12N3G is an N-channel CoolMOS power MOSFET in a PG-TO262-3-1 through-hole package. The 49 nC typical gate charge keeps switching losses manageable in hard-switched converters up to the 100 kHz range.
The 14.7 mOhm maximum at 10 V drive is the figure that determines conduction loss in a 48 V or 72 V bus design. At 56 A that is about 46 W of dissipation at the hot junction — the 107 W package limit gives headroom, but the heatsink still needs to be sized for the duty cycle. That is fast enough for a 100 kHz LLC or phase-shifted full bridge without excessive cross-conduction, but watch the Miller plateau — the input capacitance of 3220 pF at 60 V Vds adds to the effective switching charge.
Through-hole package — field-service friendly
The PG-TO262-3-1 (I²Pak) is a through-hole package with long leads. It can be swapped on site with a standard soldering iron.
