The Cypress (Infineon) FM24W256-GTR is a 256 Kbit non-volatile FRAM (Ferroelectric RAM) organized as 32K x 8 bits, communicating over an I2C bus at up to 1 MHz. It is a direct drop-in for designs that need EEPROM-like non-volatility but want the write endurance and speed of RAM — no page-write delays, no write-cycle wear-out. The 550 ns access time means every byte write completes in the bus transaction itself; no polling for write completion. Typical applications include industrial sensor calibration storage, metering data logs, medical device parameter retention, and any embedded system where the firmware needs to update configuration data frequently without wearing out the memory.
Not qualified to AEC-Q100 (no automotive-grade marking in the evidence), so for under-hood or safety-critical automotive use, look at the AEC-qualified F-RAM variants from the same family.
