USB-C controller with wide supply and industrial temp range
The CYPD3196-24LDXST is a USB Type-C controller from Infineon's EZ-PD™ CCG3PA series, built around an ARM Cortex-M0 core with 64 kB of on-chip flash and 8K x 8 of RAM. Its 3V to 24.5V supply range covers standard USB VBUS (5V) through to higher-voltage PD profiles like 20V and 24V, meaning the same part handles everything from a phone charger to a laptop power brick without an external LDO. Rated for -40°C to 105°C ambient, this is the industrial-temperature band — suitable for outdoor charging stations, in-vehicle USB ports, or factory-floor PD sinks where the enclosure sees summer heat soak.
Package and mounting — wettable flank QFN
Housed in a 24-UFQFN with exposed pad, the 4x4 mm QFN footprint (supplier device package 24-QFN) keeps the board area tight. The wettable-flank plating on the side castellations gives an AOI-visible solder fillet — a real help for inspection in production, especially if your line is used to QFNs that hide head-in-pillow defects under the body. Surface-mount with wettable flank means the part is compatible with standard reflow profiles, but the exposed pad needs a thermal via array under it to pull heat into the ground plane — the datasheet's recommended footprint is the one to follow, not a generic QFN land pattern.
Interface set and I/O count
The part brings I²C, SPI, UART, and USB interfaces — the USB port handles the Type-C configuration channel (CC) negotiation, while the I²C and SPI buses talk to the system host or an external EEPROM for firmware storage. Twelve general-purpose I/O lines are available for auxiliary functions like LED indicators, load-switch enables, or cable-detection logic.
