High-level output current is rated at 15mA, low-level at 12mA. That drive strength is enough for a lightly loaded 5V bus segment — think a few TTL or CMOS loads on a short backplane trace. If the bus has more than a handful of loads or runs longer than a few inches, buffer with a second transceiver or use a higher-drive part. The 3-state outputs let multiple transceivers share the same bus lines without contention when the output enable is inactive.
