Clock synthesizer with spread-spectrum and fanout
The Cypress CY25823ZZC is a clock generator combining a PLL-based frequency synthesizer, spread-spectrum clock generation, and a 1:2 fanout buffer in a single 16-TSSOP package. It accepts an LVTTL reference input and delivers up to two clock outputs at frequencies up to 100 MHz, with the PLL enabled for synthesis and spread-spectrum modulation. The part operates from a 3.135V to 3.465V supply and is specified over the commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, making it suitable for desktop, networking, and peripheral equipment where EMI reduction via spread spectrum is needed.
Spread-spectrum modulation and output structure
Spread-spectrum clock generation modulates the PLL output frequency to reduce peak electromagnetic emissions — a key feature for passing FCC or CISPR radiated-emission limits without expensive shielding or ferrites. The output is a standard CMOS-level clock, differential outputs are not available on this variant. The input-to-output ratio is 1:2, meaning one reference input generates two synchronized clock outputs. The divider/multiplier block supports frequency synthesis (divider present, multiplier not used), so the output frequency is a rational fraction of the input.
Package and footprint
Housed in a 16-lead TSSOP with 0.173" body width (4.40 mm), surface-mount only. The supplier device package is 16-TSSOP. No exposed pad — thermal dissipation is through the leads and board copper.
Lifecycle and compliance
The CY25823ZZC is listed as Active in production with ROHS3 compliance.
