It stores 32K x 8 bits over an SPI bus at up to 40 MHz, so it handles frequent small writes without the wear-leveling overhead of flash or the write-cycle limit of EEPROM.

The non-volatile storage means configuration parameters or calibration constants survive a power loss without a supercap or battery. The 40 MHz SPI clock delivers a read throughput of roughly 40 Mbit/s in single-I/O mode — fast enough for parameter shadowing or boot-code staging in a PLC or motor drive. The SRAM core has no erase-before-write penalty, so a firmware update routine can write a 256-byte page in a single SPI transaction.
