The MAX187ACPA+ is a 12-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC from Analog Devices, sampling at 75k samples per second. It accepts a single-ended input through an internal sample-and-hold, communicates over an SPI data interface, and includes an internal voltage reference. Housed in an 8-lead PDIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package, it operates from a single 5V analog and digital supply over a commercial temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. The SAR architecture delivers a 1:1 S/H-to-ADC ratio with no pipeline delay, making it suitable for single-channel data acquisition, industrial sensors, and battery-monitoring applications where a clean SPI readout is preferred.
Package and mounting – through-hole DIP for prototyping and low-volume builds
The MAX187ACPA+ ships in a Tube, which is the standard handling format for through-hole DIP devices. The 8-PDIP package is breadboard-friendly and hand-solderable, ideal for prototyping, lab instrumentation, and low-to-medium volume production where surface-mount reflow is not available. The 0.300" (7.62mm) body width mates with standard 0.100" pitch DIP sockets or through-hole PCB layouts. No special footprint or thermal pad is required.
Supply and interface – single 5V rail with SPI readout
Both the analog and digital supply pins run from a single 5V rail, simplifying power routing. The SPI-compatible serial interface connects directly to most microcontrollers without external level shifters when operating at 5V logic.
This supports repeat orders and long-term program planning. No additional compliance waivers or exemptions are needed for shipping to regulated markets.
