Isolated RS485 transceiver with iCoupler magnetic isolation
It integrates a 3-channel bidirectional isolator with a differential line driver and receiver, delivering 2500Vrms of isolation between the logic-side and bus-side interfaces. The part is rated for 500kbps data rate with a minimum common-mode transient immunity of 25kV/µs, making it suited for noisy industrial environments where ground loops and motor-drive transients would otherwise corrupt serial data. Operating from either a 3.3V or 5V supply on the logic side and a separate 5V supply on the bus side, the ADM2481BRWZ covers the two most common industrial logic rails. The wide-body 16-SOIC package (0.295" body width, 7.50mm) provides the creepage distance needed to maintain the 2500Vrms isolation rating across the barrier.
Channel count and direction — how the bus connects
The three channels are configured as 2 inputs on Side 1 (logic side) and 1 input on Side 2 (bus side), with bidirectional channel type. This maps to the typical half-duplex RS485 interface: one channel carries the driver data from logic to bus, a second channel carries the receiver data from bus to logic, and the third channel is used for the driver enable (DE) signal, allowing the logic-side controller to assert bus control. The 600ns typical rise/fall time (600ns max) limits edge-rate emissions and matches the 500kbps data rate target.
Sourcing and supply posture
For volume production commitments or blanket-order coverage, the active lifecycle status means ADI's factory channel remains open, and the independent channel provides a secondary supply path for bridge buys or expedites.
