60 A dual Schottky in a TO-247 — the rectifier for high-current automotive DC-DC
The VX60M100PW-M3/P is a 100 V, 60 A average rectified Trench Schottky rectifier from Vishay, packaged as a common-cathode dual diode in a through-hole TO-247-3 (TO-247AD). Each diode handles 30 A continuous with a typical forward drop of 830 mV at that current.
The -40 °C to 175 °C junction range covers the under-hood ambient plus the self-heating from 60 A of forward current — the heatsink must keep the junction below 175 °C at the worst-case load. At 100 V reverse and 175 °C junction, the 500 µA reverse leakage is the dominant loss mechanism. The forward voltage of 830 mV at 30 A per diode sets the conduction loss at 24.9 W per diode at full load, or about 50 W total for the dual package. A heatsink with a thermal resistance below 3 °C/W is needed to stay inside the SOA. The fast recovery time of ≤ 500 ns at > 200 mA is typical for a Schottky barrier — the switching speed is limited by the junction capacitance, not minority-carrier storage. This part works in a 20-50 kHz SMPS output stage; above 100 kHz the switching losses from the RC tail start to dominate.

The TO-247-3 package is a standard Vishay footprint with a common-cathode pinout — the centre pin is the cathode, the outer pins are the anodes. The part is single-sourced for the exact order code; a BOM hedge would require a different package or a different Schottky family with a board spin.
