The VS-E5TX2112S2LHM3 is a Vishay FRED Pt G5 fast recovery diode rated for 20 A average rectified current and 1200 V reverse voltage in the TO-263AB (D²PAK) surface-mount package. AEC-Q101 qualification and a -55 to 175 °C junction temperature range mean this diode is specified for under-hood and transmission-mounted electronics where the ambient sees 125 °C and the junction must survive excursions to 175 °C without derating the reverse voltage or forward current.
Recovery speed and conduction loss — the switching-stage trade-off
The 115 ns trr is the maximum reverse recovery time at rated conditions — this is the interval the diode conducts in reverse before blocking. In a boost PFC or flyback clamp, a 115 ns trr keeps the recovery charge low enough that the MOSFET's turn-on loss does not dominate the switching cycle at 50-100 kHz. Forward drop is 3.6 V maximum at 20 A and 25 °C junction. The 50 µA leakage at 1200 V reverse adds negligible static loss but confirms the die's blocking capability at temperature.
Package and board integration — D²PAK thermal and footprint notes
The TO-263AB (D²PAK) has the anode on the top tab and cathode on the bottom tab — the exposed copper pad on the bottom must be soldered to a PCB copper pour that matches the tab area for thermal impedance. The 2-lead-plus-tab pinout means the tab carries the full forward current; the PCB trace width to the tab must handle 20 A continuous without exceeding the copper temperature rise.
