800 V, 10 A standard recovery SCR in TO-220-3
The Vishay VS-10TTS08-M3 is a standard-recovery silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, rated for 800 V off-state voltage and 10 A RMS on-state current. It is a phase-control thyristor intended for line-frequency applications such as AC motor drives, power supplies, lighting control, and industrial heating where the load sees 50 or 60 Hz mains. The 800 V blocking voltage gives comfortable headroom on a 240 VAC line (which peaks at about 340 V), and the 10 A RMS continuous rating lets it handle moderate loads when properly heatsunk.
95 A surge — what it means for inrush
The non-repetitive surge current is rated at 95 A for a 50 Hz half-cycle. For a design engineer, this number drives the fuse or circuit-breaker coordination — the upstream protection should open before the SCR's surge rating is exceeded.
Gate drive: 15 mA trigger, 1 V trigger
The gate requires a trigger current of 15 mA maximum and a trigger voltage of 1 V maximum to switch the SCR into conduction. This is a moderate gate-drive requirement — a standard 5 V microcontroller I/O can usually source 15 mA directly, but a 3.3 V logic output may need a small NPN transistor or a dedicated gate-drive IC to guarantee the trigger. Once conducting, the holding current is 30 mA maximum; if the load current drops below that, the SCR will commutate off. The on-state voltage drop is 1.15 V maximum at rated current, which determines the conduction loss and heatsink sizing.
The TO-220-3 package with a metal tab allows direct mounting to a heatsink or chassis for thermal management. The off-state leakage current is 1 mA maximum at rated voltage, which is typical for a standard-recovery SCR of this voltage class.
