5300 Vrms isolation — what it buys you
The VO3063 is a single-channel triac-output optoisolator from the VO306x family, designed for AC load switching where galvanic isolation between control and power domains is mandatory. Its 5300 Vrms isolation rating covers reinforced insulation requirements for industrial motor drives, solid-state relays, and medical equipment where the safety barrier must survive a mains transient without breakdown. The 600 V off-state voltage gives headroom for 240 VAC line switching with derating for inductive kickback.
Zero-crossing and dV/dt — the switching behaviour
The built-in zero-crossing circuit turns on the triac only near the AC voltage zero, which limits inrush current into capacitive or cold-filament loads and reduces conducted EMI. The minimum static dV/dt of 1.5 kV/µs means the output triac will not falsely trigger from fast-rising mains noise or commutating transients — a common failure in cheap optoisolators driving inductive loads like contactors or solenoid valves.
Temperature range and package
Rated for -55°C to 100°C operating ambient, the VO3063 spans military-temperature low end and industrial high end — usable in outdoor telecom cabinets, engine-bay electronics, or cold-chain storage controllers without a temperature grade compromise. The 6-DIP (0.300", 7.62mm) through-hole package is the standard footprint for optoisolators in this class; it suits wave-solder assembly and field replacement without reflow concerns. The hold current is 200 µA typical, so the triac stays latched through the AC zero-cross without dropout on lightly loaded lines.
Lifecycle and compliance
RoHS3 compliant and carries cUR/UR approvals for North American safety listings. This is a standard production part — no LTB risk, no need to stockpile for legacy BOMs.
