Mains-isolated triac drive in an 8-SMD package
The VO2223A-X007T is a 1-channel power triac optoisolator from Vishay that drives low-current AC loads from a logic-level control side with 5300 Vrms galvanic isolation. The 600 V off-state blocking voltage covers 240 VAC mains with margin for nominal line transients, while the 1 A RMS on-state current suits solenoid valves, small fans, or lamp loads where a discrete triac would need extra gate drive.
Snubberless commutation and random-phase firing
A typical static dV/dt of 210 V/µs means the output triac resists false turn-on from fast-rising mains transients — snubberless operation is viable in many resistive loads, saving board space and component count. There is no zero-crossing circuit, so the triac fires at any phase angle; this allows phase-angle control for heater dimming or soft-start but injects higher inrush at turn-on compared to a zero-crossing part. The LED trigger current (Ift) is 10 mA max, with a forward voltage of 1.4 V max and a 50 mA DC forward current limit. The 25 mA hold current (Ih) sets the minimum load needed to keep the triac latched once triggered — below this, the output drops out at zero-cross, so check the load current at the lowest operating point.
Industrial temperature and approvals
The 8-SMD gull-wing package suits standard surface-mount assembly; the 7-lead variant leaves one lead omitted for creepage distance on the output side. Supplied in tape-and-reel or cut-tape options for volume or prototype runs.
