10MBd open-drain isolator for digital signal isolation
The Vishay VO0601-X001T is a single-channel optocoupler with an open-drain output, rated for a data rate of 10MBd.
Propagation delay and transient immunity define the switching margin
Maximum propagation delay is 100 ns for both tpLH and tpHL, which sets the timing budget for a 10MBd NRZ data stream — the pulse-width distortion stays within a few nanoseconds of the ideal, so the downstream receiver sees clean edges. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 5 kV/µs minimum. In a motor-drive application where the IGBT switching node slews at several kV/µs, this spec determines whether the optocoupler output glitches or holds state across the isolation barrier. Rise and fall times are 23 ns typical and 7 ns typical respectively — the asymmetric edge rates mean the output transitions faster on the falling edge (open drain pulls low quickly) than on the rising edge (pull-up resistor charges the load capacitance).
Output drive and input drive — what the 50 mA and 1.4 Vf mean for the BOM
The open-drain output can sink 50 mA per channel. That is enough to drive a small relay coil, a PLC digital input, or a logic gate input directly — no external transistor buffer needed. On the input side, the LED forward voltage is 1.4 V typical, and the maximum forward current is 20 mA.
