Single-channel optocoupler with 5 kV isolation for industrial isolation barriers
The TCLT1017 is a single-channel phototransistor optocoupler from Vishay, housed in a 4-pin SOP gull-wing package for surface-mount assembly. Its 5000Vrms isolation rating makes it a fit for breaking ground loops in switched-mode power supply feedback paths, motor drive interface circuits, and industrial sensor inputs where galvanic separation is required by safety standards. The input is a DC-driven IR LED with a typical forward voltage of 1.25 V and a maximum forward current of 60 mA. The output is a phototransistor rated for 70 V collector-emitter and 50 mA continuous current per channel. Current transfer ratio spans 80% to 160% at a 5 mA forward current, which gives the designer a known minimum gain to guarantee the output saturates across temperature and LED aging. Switching is moderate — 3 µs rise, 4.7 µs fall typical — so this part suits 10–100 kHz PWM or data-rate isolation rather than high-speed digital links.
Temperature range and operating environment
Rated from -55°C to 110°C operating, the TCLT1017 covers industrial and outdoor equipment without derating. This temperature grade suits telecom base stations, solar inverter control boards, and HVAC controller isolation barriers where ambient can reach 85°C with internal self-heating. The 4-SMD gull-wing package (4-SOP) is a standard footprint for optocouplers in this class, compatible with reflow soldering profiles.
