650V, 24A N-channel in a D²Pak — what the numbers mean for your power stage
The SIHB24N65EFT1-GE3: That 650 V breakdown gives you headroom on a 400 V DC bus or a universal-input PFC stage — the derating margin is comfortable for 380 V nominal rails. On-resistance is 156 mOhm max at 12 A with a 10 V gate drive — this is the conduction loss figure you budget for in the thermal model. At 24 A the Rds(on) will be higher than the datasheet typical due to self-heating, so size the heatsink for the hot resistance, not the 25 °C number. Total gate charge is 122 nC at 10 V, which sets the drive current needed for your switching frequency. A 100 kHz hard-switched converter drawing 122 nC per cycle needs 12.2 mA average from the gate driver — well within a standard totem-pole driver's capability.
Package and board-fit — TO-263 (D²Pak) surface mount
The exposed drain tab on the top side needs a good thermal via pattern to the inner copper planes; the datasheet's 250 W power dissipation rating assumes the tab is soldered to a substantial copper area. Cut Tape works for prototypes or small-batch repairs where you only need a handful.
