What the 600 V / 2.8 A rating means for your BOM
The GSIB660-E3/45: The GSIB660-/45 is a single-phase standard silicon bridge rectifier, rated for 600 V peak repetitive reverse voltage and 2.8 A average rectified output current (Io). These two numbers define its slot in a power supply front-end: 600 V gives enough headroom for 240 VAC mains with a 1.4× peak factor plus typical derating, while 2.8 A average limits the DC load it can feed continuously through the bridge. Forward voltage is specified at 950 mV maximum at 3 A — the conduction loss at rated current is roughly 2.8 A × 0.95 V × two diodes in series = 2.66 W, which the GSIB-5S package must dissipate through the board copper and airflow. The junction temperature range of -55 to 150 °C covers industrial and most automotive under-hood environments without a grade downgrade.
Package and board-fit — GSIB-5S through-hole
The GSIB-5S is a 4-pin single-in-line through-hole package with a 5.08 mm pin pitch, designed for wave-solder assembly and hand-solder rework. The through-hole leads carry the full current and provide mechanical anchoring — no additional heatsink is required at 2.8 A if the PCB has adequate copper pour on the rectifier output traces. Supplied in tube (the listed package format), the GSIB660-/45 feeds through standard tube feeders for automated insertion. No moisture sensitivity level (MSL) bake is needed — through-hole rectifiers are not moisture-classified per JEDEC J-STD-020, so the part can sit on the line floor without a dry-pack watch.
