400V avalanche diode with 140 ns recovery
The Vishay AR1PG-M3/84A is a 400 V, 1 A rated avalanche diode in the eSMP® series, built for fast recovery applications.
What the 175°C junction rating buys you
The junction temperature range spans -55°C to 175°C.
DO-220AA — the package that drives the footprint
The AR1PG-M3/84A comes in a DO-220AA surface-mount package, also called SMP. It is a small two-pin package with a cathode tab that needs a decent copper pad on the board to pull heat out. The 1 A average rectified current is conservative for the package size — the thermal limit is set by the board copper area, not the die.
Leakage and forward drop at the operating point
Reverse leakage is 1 µA at 400 V, which is tight enough that the diode will not waste standby power in a lightly loaded supply. Forward voltage is 1.25 V max at 1 A — expect about 1.25 W conduction loss at full rated current, which the DO-220AA can handle if the PCB pad is sized for it. The 12.5 pF capacitance at 4 V is low enough that switching losses from junction capacitance are negligible at typical SMPS frequencies.
Active production, ROHS3 compliant
For the BOM engineer, this means the part is a safe design-in for new builds and can be dual-sourced through the independent channel without worrying about a sudden EOL. No official second-source cross-reference is listed, but the eSMP® series has several pin-compatible siblings with different voltage and speed grades.
