AEC-Q101 qualified bidirectional TVS for 48V rails
The 1.5SMC56CAHM3/H: Its 47.8V reverse standoff voltage makes it a direct fit for protecting 48V nominal rails in automotive and telecom systems, clamping transients at 77V before they reach the downstream silicon. AEC-Q101 qualification means this part has passed the automotive-grade stress tests: high-temperature reverse bias, temperature cycling, and ESD robustness per the JEDEC standard. Clamping voltage and surge current — the protection envelope
This sets the upper bound for the voltage stress on the protected IC — a 60V-rated DC-DC converter on the same rail sees a 17V margin below its abs-max, which is comfortable for a 48V system. The bidirectional channel (single device) clamps both polarities symmetrically, so a single DO-214AB footprint protects a signal pair or a bipolar supply without needing two antiparallel unidirectional diodes.
