1.5 kW bidirectional clamp for 24 V rails
The 1.5SMC27CA-E3/9AT: It clamps a 23.1 V nominal rail at 37.5 V maximum while conducting 40 A peak pulse current — sized for a 24 VDC bus that sees load-dump or inductive kickback transients. The single bidirectional channel means one device protects both polarities on a differential signal pair or a floating DC supply, simplifying the BOM over two unidirectional parts in anti-series.
Breakdown and standoff — the rail protection window
Reverse standoff voltage is 23.1 V typical — the rail can ride at this level without the TVS leaking appreciably. The clamping voltage of 37.5 V at 40 A peak pulse current defines the worst-case voltage the protected load sees during a surge. For a 24 V system with 40 V abs-max transceivers (common on RS-485 or CAN), this clamp stays inside the margin.
Package and temperature grade
The wide operating junction temperature range of -65°C to 150°C covers cold-start automotive and hot industrial cabinet ambient without derating concerns. Supplied in Tape & Reel packaging for automated pick-and-place assembly. No power line protection feature — this is a general-purpose transient suppressor, not a rail-clamp array for high-speed data lines.
The 1.5SMC27CA-/9AT carries an active product status from Vishay General Semiconductor.
