Active production and AEC-Q101 qualification for vehicle-grade BOMs
The 1.5SMC18CAHM3/H: AEC-Q101 qualification (part of the Automotive 1.5SMC series) certifies the diode for automotive-grade stress tests: temperature cycling, high-temperature reverse bias, and ESD robustness per the JEDEC standard for discrete semiconductors.
What the 1500W peak pulse rating means for a 15.3V rail
The 15.3V reverse standoff voltage means the part draws negligible leakage below that rail level — it sits transparently across a 12V or 15V supply and only conducts when a transient exceeds the breakdown threshold of 17.1V minimum. Bidirectional construction (single channel) means the same device protects both polarities — useful for AC-coupled signal lines or bipolar supplies where a unidirectional part would need two diodes back-to-back.
DO-214AB SMC footprint and board-level integration
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the diode mates with a standard JEDEC footprint common to high-power TVS diodes in this class. The large copper tab on the cathode side (for unidirectional versions) or the body itself (for this bidirectional variant) conducts surge heat into the PCB copper plane — the board layout's thermal pad area directly sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance during a pulse. Operating temperature spans -65°C to 150°C junction, covering the full automotive temperature range with margin for self-heating during repetitive surge events.
