Low-ESR polymer capacitor for power-rail smoothing
United Chemi-Con's NPCAP™-PSG series APSG160ELL122MH20S is a through-hole polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitor rated 1200 µF at 16 V — a combination that positions it for input-filter and bulk-decoupling roles in DC-DC converters and offline power supplies where ripple current handling and low impedance matter more than absolute capacitance density alone. The polymer electrolyte keeps ESR to 8 mΩ — an order of magnitude lower than a comparable wet electrolytic at the same voltage and case size. That difference is the whole reason to reach for this series: at 100 kHz the 7.5 A ripple current rating is a direct consequence of that low impedance, which means less self-heating and better transient response at switching frequencies typical of modern converters.
20,000-hour rated life at the full industrial temperature band
Rated lifetime is 20,000 hours at 105 °C, and the operating window extends down to -55 °C — the full industrial temperature band. For a capacitor in a power-supply input stage, the 105 °C ceiling means it survives the thermal environment near a heatsinked MOSFET or diode without derating, which is where many electrolytics in the same application hit early failure. Tolerance is ±20%, typical for bulk capacitor work. The 3.50 mm lead spacing matches the standard 0.100-inch grid used in through-hole PCB layouts, so it drops into existing pad patterns without footprint redesign.
