2.495 V shunt reference in a TO-92-3

100 mA cathode current and 700 µA minimum bias
The shunt can sink up to 100 mA continuous, which sets the load range for a regulated rail or the sense current in an optocoupler feedback loop. The minimum cathode current of 700 µA defines the floor for the bias resistor — go below that and the reference drops out of regulation. For a typical 5 V rail, a 3.3 kΩ series resistor keeps the cathode current safely above 700 µA while staying within the 100 mA ceiling at full load.
