64 mA sink — what it buys on a loaded bus
The headline output drive — 32 mA source, 64 mA sink — is the spec that decides whether this part fits your backplane or memory interface. A standard 74HC or 74LV buffer might manage 8 mA or 24 mA; the ABT16540's 64 mA sink handles the capacitive load of multiple daisy-chained inputs without signal degradation. On a 5 V bus with ten loads, the extra drive margin means you can skip a second buffer stage. The 3-state outputs let you share the bus with other drivers, which is standard for multiplexed address/data lines.
