Wide-body SOIC-8 isolation amplifier for shunt-based current sensing
The AMC1300DWV is a single-channel isolation amplifier from Texas Instruments, purpose-built for galvanically isolated current sensing using an external shunt resistor. The 8-SOIC package with a 7.50 mm body width provides the creepage distance needed for reinforced isolation in motor drives, solar inverters, and industrial power supplies. The 5.9 mA supply current is low enough that the isolated side can be powered from a simple isolated DC-DC converter or a charge-pump bias supply.
1 MHz bandwidth, 10 µV offset — fit for precision current measurement
The 1 MHz gain-bandwidth product sets the small-signal bandwidth. Input offset voltage is 10 µV typical. Across a 50 mΩ shunt carrying 10 A (500 mV drop), that offset contributes a 0.002% error — negligible for metering-grade accuracy. The 30 µA input bias current draws from the shunt; on a 50 mΩ shunt it adds 1.5 µV of additional offset, still well inside the error budget. The output can source or sink 14 mA per channel, enough to drive the input of a typical SAR ADC or a downstream buffer amplifier without additional gain stages.

The wide-body SOIC-8 package is surface-mount only — reflow soldering is required; hand-soldering the 7.50 mm body is possible with a fine-tip iron and careful thermal management to avoid lifting the pads.
