BLDC commutation controller with integrated half-bridge drivers
The BM6248FS-E2: The ROHM BM6248FS- is a brushless DC (BLDC) motor controller combining commutation logic with three half-bridge outputs rated for 1.5 A continuous per phase. It integrates the gate drive for external power MOSFETs, so the BOM keeps the controller and FETs separate — the designer picks the Rds(on) and current rating independently.
Supply rail and thermal envelope
The supply range is 13.5 V to 16.5 V, which sits comfortably on a standard 15 V regulated bus or a nominal 14.4 V automotive rail with margin for load-dump transients. Junction temperature spans -40°C to 125°C, covering under-hood and industrial cabinet ambient without forced cooling. The 1.5 A output rating is the continuous current per half-bridge at the package's thermal limit — actual derating depends on PCB copper area and airflow.
PWM interface and commutation logic
Commutation and direction are managed internally; the host MCU sends a PWM signal via the interface to set motor speed. No Hall-sensor feedback is required — the controller uses sensorless back-EMF detection for rotor position, reducing wiring in fan and blower applications. The part is classified under Discrete Semiconductors but functions as a mixed-signal controller with integrated drive logic. The Power MOSFET technology refers to the output stage architecture, not a discrete FET — the BM6248FS- is a monolithic driver IC.
