Optical heart-rate sensor for wearable and patient-monitor designs
The BH1792GLC-E2: The BH1792GLC- from ROHM Semiconductor is an optical sensor purpose-built for heart-rate detection, using photoplethysmography (PPG) to measure blood-volume changes through the skin. It communicates over I²C, a standard two-wire bus that keeps the connection to the host MCU to just SDA and SCL plus power and ground — no extra ADC or analog front-end needed in the BOM. Rated for operation from -20°C to 85°C ambient, the sensor covers the temperature range of wrist-worn fitness trackers, chest straps, and bedside patient monitors without derating.
