12V rail, 1A — the dropout budget decides the input rail

The BDJ2GC0MEFJ-LBH2 is a single-output positive linear regulator from ROHM, delivering a fixed 12V output at up to 1A continuous. It belongs to the BDxxGC0 series of low-dropout regulators designed for industrial and general-purpose power rail conditioning. With a 14V absolute maximum input, the practical headroom window is tight: a 14V rail with 5% tolerance sits at 13.3V minimum, leaving just 0.1V margin above the dropout ceiling. A 15V rail with a pre-regulator or a tighter-tolerance 14V supply is the safer choice.

Thermal path through the exposed pad

At 1A with a 1.2V dropout, the regulator dissipates 1.2W. Without the exposed-pad thermal path, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance of a standard SOIC-8 would push the junction above 105°C in a 70°C ambient. The HTSOP-J's exposed pad cuts that resistance by roughly 40% compared to a non-exposed SOIC-8, keeping the die inside the rated envelope.

Protection set and control

On-chip protection includes over-current limiting, thermal shutdown, and a soft-start circuit that ramps the output voltage on power-up to limit inrush current into the load capacitance. The Enable pin lets a logic-level signal (typically 1.8V or 3.3V) shut down the regulator, dropping the quiescent supply current from the 1.2 mA maximum to near-zero. The quiescent current of 1.2 mA max is moderate — not a micropower part for battery-always-on designs, but acceptable for continuously-powered industrial rails where the regulator's own draw is a small fraction of the 1A load.
