The BD80GA3WEFJ-E2: The exposed paddle on the underside of the package is the primary thermal path — the PCB copper area under the pad sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance, so the layout must tie the pad to a ground plane or a dedicated copper pour with multiple vias to pull heat out of the die at 300 mA continuous load. Surface-mount assembly with a standard SOIC-8 footprint, but the exposed pad requires a solder-paste stencil aperture covering 50–70 % of the pad area to avoid voiding.
Dropout and quiescent — the real load-bearing specs
Fixed 8 V output at 300 mA maximum, positive rail, single regulator. Below that headroom the output falls out of spec, so a 9 V rail is marginal; a 12 V rail gives 3.1 V of dropout margin and is the safer choice. Quiescent current is 0.6 mA typical, with a maximum supply current of 900 µA. For a device that spends most of its time in regulation, the 0.6 mA Iq is the floor draw — it matters for always-on rails in battery-powered equipment where every microamp counts.
Temperature grade and environment
Rated for -25°C to 85°C operating ambient. This is an industrial-temperature range — suitable for factory-floor control cabinets, outdoor telecom enclosures, and automotive cabin environments, but not for under-hood or engine-bay deployment where 105°C or 125°C ambient is common. ROHS3 compliant, active lifecycle status.
