Fully integrated BLDC fan motor driver for 800 mA loads
The ROHM BD6968FVM-TR is a fully integrated driver combining control logic and power stage for brushless DC (BLDC) fan motors. It integrates Power MOSFETs in a half-bridge (2) output configuration, handles bipolar stepper motors, and accepts a PWM interface for speed control. The load voltage range spans 0.45 V to 15 V, while the supply runs from 3.3 V to 14 V, making it suitable for 5 V and 12 V fan rails common in telecom, server, and industrial equipment.
800 mA output — sizing the load budget
The continuous output current rating of 800 mA sets the practical load ceiling for a single fan or small pump. For a 12 V fan drawing 600 mA steady-state, this part leaves 200 mA headroom for startup inrush and transient spikes. If the motor's locked-rotor current exceeds 800 mA, the driver will thermally limit — derate for ambient above 85 °C per the datasheet's thermal resistance curves.
Industrial temperature grade: -40 to 105 °C
The 105 °C ceiling is the junction temperature limit — board layout with adequate copper area on the 8-MSOP's thermal pad is required to keep the die below that at full load.
The part is ROHS3 compliant.
